Currently, to be able to drive in Europe Americans simply need to contact the American Auto Association (AAA) and pay a fee for an international driver's license. Canadians need to contact the Canadian Auto Association (CAA).
However, this does not mean that all the road rules are similar! Below is a list of main road rules to keep in mind when driving in the Czech Republic and Europe.
Right Turn on Red: These are NOT allowed. You can only turn right on red when you have a green arrow.
Yield to the Right: Unlike the United States, the Czech Republic is lacking in stop signs. If you come up to an intersection without stop lights AND you are NOT on a main road, you must yield to the right.
Main Road: If you see one of these signs, this means you are on a main road and you have the right of way. You do not need to yield to the right (as mentioned above).
Speed Limit: The speed limit, unless otherwise stated, is 50 kilomters per hour (kph) in a city or town, 90 kph outside of the cities or towns, and 130 kph on the freeways.
Headlights: In the Czech Republic, it is required to have your headlights turned on at all times.
Stop Signs: When you stop at a stop sign, you do not need to stop before the white line (there may not even be one). You must come to a full stop at a place where you have the best view of the road on which you are turning.
Signs: Most signs, such as speed limits and right of way, only apply until you reach an intersection. The previous signs no longer apply, unless there is another sign following the intersection.
Yellow and Red Curb: In the Czech Republic, we do not have painted curbs. Instead we have signs.

This is the equivalent to a yellow curb. You can only stop here for drop off and pick up behind this sign.

This is the equivalent to a red curb. There is no stopping at any time behind this sign.
The rules always apply behind the sign (unless there is an arrow pointing downwards, then it applies to the front of the sign.
Roundabouts: In a roundabout you need to signal only when you are exiting the roundabout.
These are the most important rules to keep in mind when driving in the Czech Republic and Europe.
